OUR STORY

In a small Southern California beach town lived two sisters, Melissa Lane and Alesse Lanae. Though two years apart, they were mistaken as twins time and again, and so began to move through the world as such—with a close bond that grew stronger each year.

As children they adopted their grandmother’s affinity for vintage stones and, when they visited her, she occasionally gifted them lovely antique gems that the sisters would then reimagine into fresh new designs.

It started small, with identical rings made of gold and diamonds.

As the sisters came of age, their jewelry kept them connected no matter where in the world they went. Reunited and living together after college, in 2015 the sisters created Lane & Lanae, a new generation of heirlooms, with the intention of sharing high-quality, sustainably made jewelry to be passed down through the generations.

But Alesse and Melissa soon found that even fine jewelry can fall prey to the tendencies of fast fashion with unjust working conditions, unethical stone sourcing, and flat out lies to consumers about the quality of their purchase. Which is why their mission has become to create consciously. They source materials ethically from accredited suppliers who adhere to the Kimberly Process. They use high quality diamonds of at least SI1 GH clarity and color, and solid reclaimed 14k gold. And they also employ artisans locally in California to craft each item to order, ensuring they receive fair working wages.

Since the beginning of their story, the sisters have donated to causes near and dear to them in an effort to give back and make an impact in this world. They donate annually and as often as possible to Nomi Network. Nomi’s mission is to create economic opportunities for survivors and women at risk of human trafficking by providing leadership, entrepreneurship, and technical skills to become financially independent.

Lane & Lanae has been featured in top publications, including Elle, Harpers Bazaar, Who What Wear, and InStyle. Their designs have been worn and adored by celebrities, influencers, and bloggers around the world. Many like Chiara Ferragni, Jessica Alba, Chriselle Lim, and Kelsea Ballerini don the brand.

With each year, as their story unfolds, the sisters vow to create consciously and give back. They are continuously learning and growing as sisters, designers, and as a brand, bringing all these lessons with them in their journey of imagining new designs to be worn and loved from this generation to the next.
